Common headset standards include ZS (Zero Stack), IS (Integrated) and EC (External Cup), with different bearing configurations available for straight and tapered steerer tubes.
Headset spacers allow the handlebar height and cockpit position to be precisely adjusted, while the top cap and expander are used to correctly preload and adjust the headset bearings. Modern bicycles with fully or semi-integrated cable routing may require dedicated headset covers and spacers designed specifically for the frame and cockpit system.
