The headset, spacers and top cap are essential components for the bicycle steering system and for correctly setting up the cockpit. A properly selected headset and its components ensure smooth, precise and play-free movement between the fork and frame.

Modern bicycles use a wide range of headset standards and designs, so choosing the correct component requires attention to the steerer tube diameter, headset dimensions, frame headset standard and integrated or semi-integrated construction. Common headset standards include ZS (Zero Stack), IS (Integrated) and EC (External Cup), with different bearing configurations available for straight and tapered steerer tubes.
Headset spacers allow the handlebar height and cockpit position to be precisely adjusted, while the top cap and expander are used to correctly preload and adjust the headset bearings. Modern bicycles with fully or semi-integrated cable routing may require dedicated headset covers and spacers designed specifically for the frame and cockpit system.
